Empathy is a great skill for children. In fact, it’s a great skill for any of us to have. In parenting, our ability to empathize with our children is invaluable. Empathy is our ability to see the world as someone else sees it. This includes being with someone else in their emotional world.

Empathy and sympathy are often confused. Empathy is the experience of sharing a feeling with someone else. If you get angry on something, I can sympathize with you if I also get angry on this issue. But even if I’m not angry, I can sympathize with you.
