New suspect in Ashling Murphy murder brought to hospital with injured

A new suspect, identified by Gardai investigating the murder of Ashling Murphy in Co Offley, is to be interviewed by detectives after he is adequately understood by the medical staff who were treating him for multiple injuries Friday night. .

The man had gone to a hospital in Dublin late on Thursday for treatment. When Gardai learned of his presence there, as well as the nature of his injuries and the fact that they were unexplained, they probed into his background. He was being monitored by Guardai on Friday night.

It was unclear when he would be physically and mentally assessed for the interview, but Gardai hoped it would happen soon.

The Irish Times understands that the new suspect lives in South Dublin and the Midlands, where his family members are.

Gardai believes that Ms. Murphy (23), a National School teacher and talented musician from Blueball’s townland outside Tullamore, tried to fight off her assailant, resulting in the killer leaving forensic evidence at the scene.
