Pandemic ‘loss’ productivity in Machilas

Chihuahua- Given the absence of sick workers in quarantine and the need to work from home, the rebound in COVID-19 infections led to a decline in productivity in the Maquiladora industry by between 20 and 40 percent.

The foregoing was pointed out by the presidents of the Business Coordinating Council, the Confederation of Employers of the Mexican Republic (Copermex) and the National Chamber of Transformation Industry (Canacintra): Francisco Santini, Salvador Carrejo and Antonio Valadez, respectively.

In separate interviews, he called on the population to follow healthy distancing, use masks and avoid meetings at home.

He also approved the decisions taken by the authorities so far to prevent further spread, although the head of Copermax reiterated that action by the government was slow.

Shantini asks to strengthen the guard

The President of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), Francisco Santini Ramos, considers the change in the color of traffic lights to be its most dangerous: “We see the risk of reaching red because at least 20 percent of people under 18 are still vaccinated. without age”, he mentioned.

He indicated that the World Health Organization has called for the new version not to be taken lightly, that is, not to regard it as something that is “mild”.

Some experts also predict that Omicron may be a kind of natural vaccine that will mark the beginning of the end of the pandemic, but if so, it will take several months, the CCE president said.

In the meantime, he said the guard should be strengthened and continue to develop more effective social distancing measures, especially in transport and social gatherings.

“As a society, we have not only understood the risks of not taking care of ourselves, but have not understood everyone. There are still many people who are asked to wear masks in an establishment or in an emergency. They get upset when they consider it ‘ridiculous’ in a social gathering.”

Francisco Santini stressed that of course the capacity restrictions caused by orange traffic lights affect companies, but an even more significant increase is the increase in disabilities caused by the transition.

“For this reason, we support the decision to move to orange traffic lights, which we also believe should have been done weeks ago.”

The vaccine helped: Valadez

Given the new wave of Covid-19 infections in the city of Chihuahua, one of the problems in the productive sector is the need for the isolation of many partners, said Canacintra President Antonio Valadez García, who said several companies have been given the task of testing. and unfortunately many positive cases have been detected in the administrative and operational sector.

Canasintra’s president explained that, although more people are now taking Covid tests, “there’s also the fact that there are many pharmacies and laboratories that didn’t do this before, leading to an increase in the number of positive people, but it’s a fact.” that there are more infections than before”.

He pointed out that, as far as there were more social gatherings in 2021 and not in previous years, it is now the result in terms of health, although the hospitalization level is 50 per cent and beds are available to care for the sick.

Somehow, the vaccination helped, despite the high level of infection, decrease the number of hospital stays.

Expect bad January: Carrezo

For his part, Salvador Carrejo said companies reported a significant impact on their productivity of between 30 and 40 percent, derived from the absence of infected employees; Incidentally, everyone now has friends or family members who have been affected by the COVID-19 virus, said the president of Copermax-Chihuahua.

He pointed out that with regard to the infections received from the Christmas holidays, it is a shared responsibility, because of the late response of the authority, but also because of the misconduct of the citizens, a bad January is expected.

In the end, he expressed that, unfortunately, there was a December as if there was no epidemic, there was lapse on the part of the authorities and irresponsibility of the citizens: this generated the situation that is being experienced at the moment.
