SAG Awards: Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman among Brit nominees

Netflix’s The Power of the Dog is one of the biggest movies of the year – Cumberbatch was nominated for Best Actor for his role in a Western.

He faces fellow Brit Andrew Garfield in the category – who stars in Tick, Tick… Boom! – as well as Will Smith who stars in King Richard, Javier Bardem in Being the Ricardos and Denzel Washington for his role in The Tragedy of Macbeth.

He encounters Jessica Chastain, who stars in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Lady Gaga, who stars in House of Gucci, and Jennifer Hudson in Respect.

On the television side of the awards, Cox was nominated in succession for her leading role.

The British stars of the American sitcom Ted Lasso expressed surprise and delight at his “mind-blowing” nomination.

The heartwarming series follows the journey of American football coach Lasso, who is hired to coach AFC Richmond, a London-based football team with no experience.
