Telefónica Tech seeks to create jobs and investments in Northern Ireland

Peter Russell, Managing Director of Telefónica Tech UK&I Ireland, explains what we can expect to see here from one of the biggest names in tech.

Operating throughout Europe and the US, Telefónica is perhaps best known in the UK and Ireland for being involved in the mobile phone and entertainment industries through Virgin Media and O2. However, it is also making significant investments to increase its expertise in digital transformation through the creation of Telefónica Tech.

Telefónica Tech acquired CANCOM UK&I in July 2021, merging the former Novosco business to form Telefónica Tech UK&I.

This means the company now has over 600 team members, 300 of whom are based in Belfast, providing world-leading expertise in areas including IT professional services, managed services, cyber security and multi-cloud solutions.

Peter Russell says: “Telefonica Tech is already looking at plans that will lead to more jobs and more investment in Northern Ireland.

“The company recognizes the expertise we have here, the quality of people, and the ability it provides to truly strengthen its cloud and cybersecurity capabilities, with a strong focus on professional and managed services.”

“The acquisition is really good news for our team and our customers. Over the years we have made a lot of changes – maybe too many changes – but the end result has been great.

“We have found a home with a truly global player whose values and objectives match very closely with our ambition and vision.

“This will mean we can combine the incredible talent of our team with the value proposition, reputation and global reach of Telefónica Tech, a truly strategic partner in their digital transformation journey for business-to-business clients in the UK and Ireland To establish himself as . . “

Telefónica Tech is continually building its offering into the digital transformation and accelerating growth with acquisitions, including from CANCOM UK&I. Telefonica Tech is expected to continue to grow at double-digit rates by leveraging Telefonica Group’s 5.5 million B2B customer base and strengthening its integrated value proposition across all its markets.

Mr. Russell says Telefonica Tech’s presence in Belfast adds another truly global name to the local technology landscape.

“Our already strong market offering will be further strengthened by the global capabilities that Telefónica Tech brings to the table. We leverage our expertise in areas such as the cloud, cyber security and the modern workplace, as well as our market in health, to serve a wide range of customers. Will continue to offer leading regional expertise.

“What has changed is the name above the door and the ability to be part of Telefónica Tech comes in terms of scale, investment and recognition. Telefónica Tech is highly innovative and is investing in many areas to be best in class Hope this will help us to be successful with new customers and attracting new talents.

“And that is why it was so exciting for us to partner with the Belfast Telegraph IT Awards this year. The sponsorship provided us with an incredible platform to build awareness of our new brand and tell our story to the market, enabling all of our key stakeholders learned they could continue to rely on the expertise and experience of our talented team, but now with the power and scale of Telefónica Tech behind us.

“I see this as the start of an exciting new journey for our team, a kind of ‘fresh start’, and one that I and the management team are really excited about.”
