A new bride was so embarrassed by her size 22 figure in her wedding photos that she lost sixth place.
Verity Truman, 30, tipped the scales at 17 2lbs when she walked down the aisle after years of gorging on takeaways, snacks, and ice cream.
A few weeks after they tied the knot, Verity received wedding photos, but was horrified by its sheer size and wept bitterly.
Six months later, she was inspired to join Slimming World in January 2019 and immediately began to lose weight.
Variety switched her high-calorie diet to low-fat homemade meals with fruits and fruits, and within two years she lost 6th place.
She now weighs 11st 2lbs and has grown to a dress size of 8-10.
Verity also gained the confidence to find herself a new job as an assistant service manager at a car dealership by leaving her husband.
Variety of Stratford-upon-Avon, Works, said: “Looking back, I can see that I was not happy in my relationship before marriage.
“I sought comfort in food and gained weight very quickly leading up to the wedding.
“My weight had become such an issue that something as simple as putting on a seatbelt was a nightmare because the clip was making my leg ache.
“I was always tired, everything hurt and I couldn’t even do a basic 10-minute workout without pain.
“The last straw was looking at my wedding photos.
“I cried for days seeing them. I was the biggest I’ve ever been and I couldn’t bring myself to look at those photos again months later.
“I hated everything about myself, and began to hide my true personality as well as my body.”
Verity joined the Slimming World group with her father in Chipping Campden, Glos.
After she lost 4 pounds in her first week, Variety was taught to consume healthy foods like lean-meats, potatoes, pasta, fruits and vegetables.
Previously, Variety’s diet included convenience foods, takeaways, crisps, sweets and chocolate — and even skipping breakfast.
She said: “I’ve struggled with my weight since I was a teenager, so I tried every diet you could think of.
“What struck me about Slimming World was that I never felt hungry because I could still enjoy all my favorite foods, like pasta.
“My favorite food is Chili Beef Mac ‘n’ Cheese—something you never thought you could enjoy while losing weight.
“I really loved how I could personalize the plan to my likes and dislikes.
“It was really a chore for me because I knew if I had to cut out foods like pasta and chocolate I’d be totally off.
“The group was also really wonderful. Being surrounded by people who understand what it’s like to struggle with your weight was really comforting and I really depended on their support.
“A year into my journey, my group turned to a virtual service as we entered a national lockdown, but I was still present each week to check in and stay on track.
“Of course, there were times I’ve hit a bump in the road—a windfall or a slight wobble.
“I found that keeping a food diary is really helpful, or researching menus before I eat so I can make a healthier choice.”
In recognition of her incredible weight loss, Verity has been crowned Slimming World’s Miss Slinky 2022.
She continued: “Previously any type of activity would leave me in pain, I could barely climb a flight of stairs without having to breathe.
“Now I have an entire wardrobe dedicated to gym clothes. I enjoy Pilates and spinning classes, and I always feel great afterward.
“When I was at my heaviest it felt like my unhappiness permeated every aspect of my life.
“I would wear dark, baggy clothes because I thought they would be slimming and I would blend into the background so that I didn’t stand out.
“Now I’m proud of who I am and what I’ve accomplished. The world seems exciting and new — and I can’t wait to see what’s next.” VERITY’S
